PR Alcock and Sones

PR Alcock and Sones is a construction and joinery company based on Castle Street in Banbury, Oxfordshire. Founded in 1922 by Percy Reginald Alcock, the firm has been run by four generations of the Alcock family and has operated from its Castle Street premises since 1936. The company specialises in traditional construction and renovation, with particular expertise in high quality restoration and joinery works on period houses and churches, often working under the direction of the National Trust and English Heritage. Services include master joinery and carpentry, traditional construction and renovation, and production services encompassing the fabrication and reproduction of frames, mouldings and bespoke furniture. Over its long history the company has undertaken projects including barn roof restoration, church restoration, and roofing work across Oxfordshire and surrounding counties. Percy Alcock served his apprenticeship as a carpenter with Booths, the main Banbury builders of the time, and later made timber framed aircraft and wooden propellers in Coventry during the First World War before establishing the business. The firm initially traded in partnership with a stonemason as Alcock and Cronk, and from 1927 onwards has operated under the name of P.R. Alcock and Sons.
