About Donnington Brewery

Donnington Brewery is a historic tower brewery in the heart of the Cotswolds at Upper Swell near Stow-on-the-Wold. Richard Arkell began brewing on the site in 1865, using a 13th-century water mill bought by Thomas Arkell in 1827, and the mill wheel still drives pumps and machinery today. The brewery uses spring water drawn from beside the mill pond alongside barley, malt and hops to produce its real ales by much the same recipe that has always been used. Donnington maintains 20 tied houses across the Cotswolds where visitors can drink, eat and stay, as well as supplying a number of free trade outlets. The brewery offers official tours of its historical tower brewery, and runs an online shop selling bottled beers, mini kegs, polypins, gift boxes and merchandise including glasses, clothing and calendars. Visitors can also follow the Donnington Way and book luxury Cotswold stays through the brewery.
