About Daventry Museum
Daventry Museum is a social history museum on the ground floor of the Town Council Offices at 3 New Street, Daventry. Supported by volunteers and funded by Daventry Town Council, the museum brings people together to share stories and learn about the town's rich history. Daventry's position in the centre of England has given it a complex and unique history of people moving to and through the town, and the collection tells these stories through permanent and temporary exhibitions displaying artefacts, photographs and oral histories. The museum also collects contemporary material, preserving current history in the making for future generations. Permanent displays feature the town's ancient charters, finds from the scheduled ancient monument of Borough Hill, the BBC 5XX Radio Transmitting Station and Daventry's historic high street. Various temporary exhibitions are held each year, showing objects linked to local history, many of them loaned or donated by residents. The collection has been built up from the holdings of the Charter Trustees, the District Council Museum and the Town Council Museum. Regular events are held for families and community groups, including an annual British Science Week event in March. Resources available from the museum include self guided walks and a digital Town Treasure Hunt, and virtual tours can be explored online. Booking is required to visit.
