Spiceball Park and Grimsbury Reservoir

This delightful circular walk offers a lovely break into nature from Banbury's bustling town centre, combining the scenic beauty of Spiceball Park with the wildlife-rich environment of Grimsbury Reservoir. The route begins at Riverside Car Park (OX16 2AY) in Spiceball Country Park, which serves as a vital 'green link' connecting central Banbury to Grimsbury Reservoir and the Oxford Canal towpath. The park features a well-maintained nature trail with easy access along the footpath circuit, plus a children's play area making it perfect for families. As you follow the paved shared-use paths through Spiceball Park, you'll enjoy riverside views along the River Cherwell and peaceful parkland scenery. The route then continues north to Grimsbury Reservoir, accessed via Grimsbury Green (nearest postcode OX16 3JJ). This short loop around the reservoir is particularly popular with birdwatchers, offering excellent opportunities to spot a variety of waterfowl and other wildlife. The reservoir's tranquil setting provides great views across the water and surrounding landscape. The entire route is traffic-free except for a brief quiet road section near the reservoir, making it suitable for walkers of all abilities. The walk can be easily accessed from Banbury town centre on foot, with the central bus station connecting at step 54 of the route, and Banbury railway station at step 62. Public toilets and refreshments are available in Spiceball Park, and parking is provided at Riverside Car Park. Dogs are welcome throughout the route, and the flat, well-maintained paths make this an accessible walk for families with children and those seeking a gentle stroll in nature.
