History

Banbury has a long and varied history that stretches back many centuries. It was once well known for its ale, cheese and the famous Banbury cake. A large castle stood here in medieval times and played an important role during periods of conflict, although it was eventually demolished. The town later became a hub for industry and expanded steadily throughout the twentieth century, shaping the busy and diverse community seen today.
